Testimonials
From a Stoke-on-Trent primary school (July 2019)
"Just the loveliest residential - our children were in awe of their surroundings. They were able to explore the forest, collect sticks for the fire, paddle in the river and spot wildlife from the quiet room. Thanks for helping our children come to such a wonderful place."
From a Chesterfield community group (April 2019)
"We have had the best time here at Back Dane giving our young people and their families their first experience of walking in the Peaks, climbing Hanging Stone and Luds Church and their first ever campfire. We have laughed, bonded and challenged and its been awesome! Thank you so much for letting us stay and a massive thank you to all your volunteers who have made this a magical place! What you have done here is so special and has provided our little community with fun, happy memories for life."
From an Iranian refugee (March 2019)
"It was my first holiday in the UK. It was fabulous with lovely weather and people, nice nature and ancient stone - it was wonderful. All of that makes it an unforgettable memory for me."
From a Sudanese refugee (March 2019)
"I like Back Dane, I hope to come back again. I love everything about Back Dane."
From the leader of a group of teenagers who were leaving the care system (Christmas 2018)
"Wonderful experience once again, the difference this makes to the lives of others is beyond measure. Thank you so very much."
From Cheshire Young Carers (who visited Back Dane in October 2018)
"We were truly blessed to have this opportunity to bring the young carers to Back Dane, wonderful facilities and set in the most remarkable countryside"
From Leigh Skelton (Combat Stress)
"It is quite difficult to put into words what the ‘Backdane effect’ is, but I will have a go:
Firstly, there is something about the cottage that makes people safe. The beauty and peace combine with a positive sense of isolation from our hectic world help people, particularly those with troubledminds, to relax and feel at ease.
Secondly, because there is a group focus to our visits, the veterans are quickly reminded of how good they are at team work and looking out for each other, whether it be when climbing on the Roaches or when cooking together, this does wonders for damaged self esteem.
Finally, time, from people that care and understand. Because the cottage is relatively free from the distractions of the modern world, people in general, not just the veterans, have time to really focus on each other and listen...
We now come to the cottage four times each year and, no matter what the weather throws at us, always find it of great benefit to the veterans and to the people who are dedicated to helping them. The Veterans would like me to end this piece by expressing their sincere and heartfelt gratitude for the kindness of everyone associated with the Beasley Trust over the years in allowing us to benefit from such a magical place.
